Volume II — Lessons From the Field
Essay 01
It sounds like a simple question, but the answer often gives us a headache. We all know the frustration: long queues, misplaced files, and the anxiety of not knowing where our documents actually are in the process. Not to mention the wasted time and the hassle of taking leave from work.
Zeamae Tech Studio had the opportunity to collaborate with the Indonesian Government on the Digitalization Project. Back then, our team had one main goal: to make the experience no longer daunting for the public.
Through this project, we designed a public service platform built on two complementary perspectives:
- For the Public: A user-friendly system. From ID verification and document uploads to real-time status tracking, everything can be monitored directly from a smartphone screen without any guesswork.
- For Officials: A clean administrative dashboard. Turning complex piles of paperwork into a transparent and efficient digital workflow for the staff behind the scenes.
The most valuable lesson from this process?
System digitalization isn’t just about lines of code or advanced technology. It is about building trust. When the public feels supported and officials feel assisted, that is when technology truly shows its value. Good technology shouldn’t make things complicated, it should bring ease.
Driving change on a national scale comes with big challenges, but seeing its direct impact on people’s daily lives brings a unique sense of fulfillment.
For those who frequently interact with public services, what features or workflows would bring you the most relief if they were fully digitalized? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
